Slow Food Presidia
The Slow Food Presidia protect small-scale local products which are at risk of disappearing; they promote local regions; and help to revive traditional occupations and processing methods. Today over 300 Presidia involve more than 10.000 producers worldwide - small farmers, herders, fisherpeople and artisan producers. Defending these products also means preserving high mountain pastures and tropical forests, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for small-scale producers from the Andes to the African coasts, safeguarding hundreds of animal breeds and plant species, and ensuring future generations a clean planet that is rich in biodiversity. The Presidia are promoted and coordinated by the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity.
It operates worldwide but its most significant commitment is to developing countries, where defending biodiversity not only means improving people’s quality of life, but can mean guaranteeing life itself.
